Maandeeq strives to create an enabling intellectual environment for local knowledge production, research, and transformative community services. The aim is to be a flag bearer for localisation, decolonization, Islamization, national development, and economic relevance of higher education in the Horn of Africa. By achieving these targets, the university established itself as a centre of excellence that addresses the unique needs and aspirations of Somaliland and its communities while contributing to sustainable development and the advancement of knowledge production and outreach.

Its philosophy is driven by a conviction to transform society and create social prosperity through research, practice, and community engagement. The university prioritises access to expertise and industry connections, allowing students to learn from experienced figures in their field of study and establish long-lasting connections. 

The institution directly works with ministries, local non-government organisations, research centres, think tanks, civil society organisations, and traditional and religious structures. It also has specialised centres that enable students to augment their ideas, incubate their social enterprise and entrepreneurial projects, and engage with communities. 

Our Legal Aid Clinic, Migration Research Centre, Social and Behaviour Change Centre, Security and Peace Studies, and Education Policy and Leadership Institute provide a rich experience for students and bring an interdisciplinary approach to their teachings.
